Editing Has Always Been About More Than Correcting Words.

I'm Regan Richardson, the editor and researcher behind Regan Edits.

I've always been a reader, writer, researcher, and overall book nerd. I grew up surrounded by stories and developed a love of words and history early in life.

My mother was an editor of small-town weekly newspapers and an author, so editing and storytelling were part of my world long before Regan Edits became a business.

After more than 20 years of editing projects alongside my corporate career, I founded Regan Edits in 2018.

When my corporate career ended in 2023, I had the opportunity to make Regan Edits my full-time focus.

And over time, something became increasingly clear:

The projects that excite me most are the ones where editing and research intersect.

WHY HISTORY?

I'm fascinated by the questions behind the story.

Who was this person?

Where did they live?

What was happening around them?

What would their world have looked like?

What records did they leave behind?

And perhaps most importantly:

What can we learn when we look beyond the obvious record?

My work in genealogy and historical research has deepened the way I approach editing.

When a manuscript involves real people, real places, family history, or historical events, the words are only part of the story.

The research matters, too.

EDITOR + RESEARCHER

Today, my work spans professional editing, genealogical research, historical research, journal editing, historical organizations, and educational workshops.

I work with authors and organizations on projects that require careful attention to both language and information.

I'm particularly interested in:

  • Memoir

  • Historical fiction

  • Historical nonfiction

  • Biography

  • Family history

  • Genealogical research

  • Historical research

  • Research-based storytelling

Stories deserve to be told well.

History deserves to be handled carefully.

Research deserves to be documented.

Writers deserve an editor who respects their voice.

Family stories deserve to be preserved.
