Overcoming Writer's Block

You may find yourself hitting a wall while working on your project. No ideas are coming to mind, no words are flowing from your fingertips or you are just in a mental fog. It happens to most writers at some point. Here are a few ideas to get those creative juices flowing again;

  • Write something else. Sometimes just the process of writing will foster ideas on your project. Write a to do list. Write a haiku. If you typically write on the computer, write with pen and paper.

  • People watch. Go to your favorite coffee shop and observe. Go to an area of your city there is a lot of foot traffic and slowly walk around. Observing people can foster ideas for the characters in your book and can potentially produce some great dialogue for your project.

  • Get creative. Go to a paint and sip. Go to your favorite place and take photos. Take a pottery class. Rearrange your bedroom or living room. Activities like this will allow you to take a mental break from your project and potentially spark new ideas.

We hope these tips help you get back writing. What have you done to overcome your writer's block?
