Wrapping Up 2024: A Year of Stories, Scholarship, and Support

Regan

As the final days of 2024 draw near, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared this year as editors and storytellers. Every project, every session, and every conversation reminded us why we’re so passionate about what we do.

Our Year in Projects

This year brought a diverse array of projects that showcased the breadth and depth of our editorial work:

  • A novel: We guided an author in transforming their raw manuscript into a compelling, polished work of fiction.

  • A dissertation: Collaborating with an academic writer, we ensured their groundbreaking research was clear, precise, and ready for submission.

  • Children’s books: Helping shape multiple enchanting stories for young readers was a joy, as we fine-tuned playful language and engaging narratives.

  • A documentary: Partnering with a documentary filmmaker to edit opening and closing credits and ensuring consistency with spellings across the credits and on screen.

  • Business and operations manuals: We worked with organizations to create clear, user-friendly guides that enhance efficiency and productivity.

Each project was a collaboration that taught us as much as we gave, deepening our appreciation for the craft of writing across genres.

Serving the Literary Community

We were honored to serve as judges for two well-respected literary organizations this year. Evaluating the finest work from talented writers across genres was both challenging and rewarding, reaffirming the vitality of storytelling in all its forms.

Championing Inclusion in Editing

In 2024, we were proud to serve on the ACES (American Copy Editors Society) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Advisory Committee. This vital committee works to ensure that all ACES presentations are as inclusive, equitable, and accessible as possible.

Our role involved reviewing session materials—including descriptions, slides, and handouts—before events to provide constructive feedback that supports presenters in creating impactful and inclusive resources. It’s a behind-the-scenes effort, but one that reflects our commitment to advancing DEIA principles within the editorial community and beyond.

This work has deepened our understanding of how intentionality in language and presentation can foster greater inclusivity—a perspective we bring to every project we touch.

Engaging With Our Community

This year, we expanded our commitment to accessibility and education by hosting four free Ask An Editor sessions via Zoom. These interactive events provided aspiring writers and seasoned authors alike with answers to their burning questions, tips for refining their craft, and encouragement to pursue their creative dreams.

The insights and connections forged during these sessions were inspiring, reaffirming the importance of fostering a supportive writing community.

Looking Ahead

As we step into 2025, we carry forward the lessons, experiences, and relationships from this incredible year. Our resolution is simple: to continue elevating voices, refining stories, and championing creativity.

To every writer we’ve worked with, to those who attended our sessions, and to our broader community—thank you. Your trust and passion fuel our work.

Here’s to another year of storytelling!
